In this appointment David will identify any issues and conduct a full treatment which may include nails cut and filed, removal of corns and callus. He can also address skin conditions, fungal infections and verruca may also be treated in this appointment.
Conditions that benefit from this treatment are: chilblains, arthritis, eczema and psoriasis, sore feet, stiff joints, poor circulation, bursitis, inflammation, tendinitis, sports injury, hard skin.
He uses a variety of treatments to fight verrucas such as cryotherapy or acids to stimulate your immune system which would usually be included in your routine podiatry appointment. However, in more persistent or painful verruca he offers a more invasive treatment called needling which is conducted under local anesthetic. The area affected is then punctured multiple times to create an immune response.
Ingrowing toe nails can be very painful and he aims to treat these conservatively in clinic. In some cases nail surgery may be necessary because too much damage has already been done or nail shape may increase the risk of further problems. Nail Surgery is conducted under local anesthetic, when the toe is numb it allows removal of the narrow piece of nail from the side causing the problem or the whole nail. He will also provide you with dressings and instructions for self care at home between appointments.
As part of a diabetic assessment David will take a medical history and ask questions about your feet and how you manage your diabetes. A comprehensive assessment is carried out using various tests, including vascular analysis using a doppler, 128 Htz vibration perception, Neurotip neurological testing, 10g Monofilament neurologocal testing. He will then advise you of any findings from these tests and provide you with advice where appropriate.
Advanced Diabetic Assessment
David offers an advanced assessment which includes all the above, as well as force plate pressure analysis – this provides detailed information showing how weight is distributed through the feet. Using this data he can identify any areas under increased pressure and at risk of ulceration, he can then offer advice and solutions to help in offloading these areas and reduce those risks.
